Vitamins in beauty products: real benefits?
Do you like to look after your skin? Do you use vitamin-rich cosmetics that boast certain virtues? But what are they really? Find out in this article!
Why vitamins in body care products?
Vitamins play a crucial role in body care. Acting as essential nutrients, they promote healthy skin and hair. Their presence in body care products helps to nourish, revitalize and protect the skin. Thanks to their benefits, the skin retains its radiance and vitality.
Each vitamin provides specific care. That's why several vitamins can be found in a single cosmetic product. For example, vitamin E acts as a soother and antioxidant, while vitamin C improves skin suppleness. So, by using natural cosmetics like our Sobert Body Milk or Body Scrub, you're promoting a skincare routine that meets your skin's needs.
Focus on the different vitamins that can be found in your body care products
VITAMIN A
Retinoids are a family of compounds derived from vitamin A. Experts have been particularly interested in these compounds for their effects in the treatment of acne and photoaging (premature aging of the skin caused by UV rays). Topical application of retinoids may prevent UV damage and improve the appearance of fine wrinkles, smoothness and hyperpigmentation. However, in some people, the application of cosmetics with retinoids can cause adverse skin reactions. In many cases, simply adjusting the dose and/or frequency is enough to reduce or even eliminate adverse effects. As the duration of retinoid effects on the skin is not yet well understood, long-term application is recommended to maintain improvements.
VITAMIN D
Vitamin D is obtained through exposure to sunlight. When applied to the skin, in vitro and rodent studies show that the active form of vitamin D (calciferol) has photoprotective effects. In humans, studies indicate that topical use of calcitriol is safe and can be an effective treatment for psoriasis.
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant naturally present in the skin's sebum. Its main role is to prevent damage caused by UV rays and other free radicals. When applied to the skin, vitamin E generally increases cutaneous photoprotection, and products using it in combination with vitamin C appear to be even more effective. Finally, topical vitamin E may also have an anti-inflammatory action, but more studies are needed.
VITAMIN C
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, has antioxidant properties and is necessary for proper wound healing. It also plays a role in the synthesis of collagen, a protein found in the skin. This vitamin can be delivered to the skin via topical application. However, absorption varies according to factors such as product pH and vitamin C concentration. In addition, exposure to air, heat and/or light can contribute to its degradation over time. Various studies suggest that applying vitamin C to the skin may have protective effects against UV rays, helping to reduce sun damage and wrinkles. Finally, vitamin C appears to be most effective when used in combination with other micronutrients, notably vitamin E.
VITAMIN F
Vitamin F is the term sometimes used for the essential fatty acids linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6). These fatty acids play an important role in skin function and appearance, and also reduce the skin's inflammatory response. Their topical application is an effective way to deliver essential fatty acids to the skin. It has also been reported that the application of omega-3 to the skin may attenuate the effects of UV rays.
