Resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant with anti-ageing properties

Resveratrol is a natural molecule of the polyphenol family found in many plants, including cocoa beans, pomegranates and berries, to name but a few. It is also found in abundance in the skin of red grapes.

Resveratrol has been used in cosmetology as an active ingredient since the 1990s for its scientifically-proven antioxidant and anti-ageing virtues. Resveratrol is one of the signature ingredients of the NURISH skincare range, and is found in every single product. Discover the incredible benefits of this active ingredient for healthy, youthful skin.

Resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant

Studies have shown that resveratrol possesses powerful antioxidant properties that protect skin cells against DNA damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for the degradation and oxidation of the body's cells, and therefore for the aging of the organism as a whole.

Free radicals include external aggressors in our environment, such as pollution, UV rays and tobacco smoke. A lifestyle based on high alcohol consumption and poor diet also contributes to increased oxidative stress.

Antioxidants are just as valuable, as they act against free radicals by neutralizing them.

Resveratrol slows the signs of aging

Free radicals leave their mark on the skin over the long term: sagging skin, wrinkles and pigmentation spots, to name but a few. By neutralizing them, resveratrol slows the appearance of signs of aging. Its antioxidant power is so great that, according to some studies, it could even extend cell life.

Resveratrol stimulates collagen production

Resveratrol has been shown to stimulate the proliferation of fibroblasts, the cells that secrete large quantities of collagen. Through its action on fibroblasts, resveratrol helps increase the concentration of type 1 collagen, which is essential for maintaining skin structure and firmness, and type 3 collagen, which gives skin its plump, plump appearance.

The first wrinkles appear when the body no longer produces enough collagen. Collagen therefore plays a key role in skin aging.

Resveratrol, a good protective shield

Resveratrol also protects the skin from damage caused by the sun's rays, slowing down the photo-aging process.

Since UV rays are one of the main causes of premature skin ageing, resveratrol plays an important anti-ageing role.

Several laboratory studies (in vivo and in vitro) have demonstrated that resveratrol has anti-inflammatory properties. These are explained, among other things, by inhibition of the production of factors causing inflammation in the skin. Resveratrol may therefore be useful in reducing the intensity of a skin hematoma commonly referred to as a “bruise”, and even the appearance of brown spots associated with aging.

Given its wide range of benefits, it's easy to understand why people are so interested in resveratrol. To make the most of its benefits, it's best to eat resveratrol-rich foods and include resveratrol-containing skincare products in your daily beauty routine, such as our body duo made up of our moisturizing body sorbet milk and exfoliating body gel. As well as our lip duo composed of a lip scrub and our lip balm/night mask.
