How to create the perfect lip scrub?
Lip scrubbing is often a step in our beauty routine that we tend to neglect. Yet it's an essential step in keeping your lips healthy. But why use a lip scrub at all? The Nurish team answers this question in a dedicated article.
Why use a lip scrub?
Multiple external aggressions such as the cold, the sun, but also pollution tend to dry out your lips, leading to the accumulation of dead skin. Often invisible to the naked eye, this dead skin becomes apparent after severe aggression, and can lead to painful chapping. With regular use of a lip scrub, your lips can regain their smooth, soft appearance, if you exfoliate them at least once a week. So, by exfoliating your lips, they'll be healthier, making your lipstick last longer and without irregularities when you apply it.
What's more, by using a lip scrub, you boost your lips' blood circulation. This stimulation will speed up cell renewal, making your lips look fuller every day.
How to perform a lip scrub properly?
For a successful lip scrub, the golden rule is to be gentle. Avoid coarse-grain exfoliants, as the skin on the lips is more fragile and finer than that on the rest of the body, which could make them even more fragile.
So, once you've chosen a fine-grain lip exfoliator like the one offered by Nurish, we recommend that you apply the scrub in small quantities to damp lips, so as not to over-aggress the skin. To exfoliate and gently remove dead skin cells, use gentle, circular movements. Carry out this operation for about a minute, taking care not to press hard on your lips. We recommend insisting on the often neglected lip contour, then rinsing with warm or hot water.
How do I care for my lips after using a lip scrub?
After using a lip scrub about once a week, we recommend applying a lip balm 2 or 3 times a day. Choose a natural balm to avoid potentially irritating ingredients, especially if you have sensitive skin. To keep your lips moisturized and soft, don't forget to remove them every evening with a cleansing milk or oil, as you prefer. If you often wear matte lipstick or use lip liner, it's advisable to apply lip balm even more frequently.
As you know, hydration is the main key to healthy lips. So remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body well hydrated. What's more, even if habits are hard to break, avoid running your tongue over your lips, as this will only dry them out further.
Please note that if your lips are too chapped, or if you have one or more cold sores, it's best to avoid exfoliation. This could worsen the condition of your mouth, which is not what we're aiming for. In such cases, apply a generous amount of lip balm directly, like a night mask.
In the course of your life, we're sure you've experienced the unpleasant sensation of dry, chapped lips. As well as being unattractive, it can be a nuisance on a daily basis.
