5 tips for soft and moisturized skin

In the face of multiple external aggressions, our skin is often put to the test, which can lead to dryness and discomfort. In this article, we reveal our 5 tips for soft, moisturized skin. Thanks to Nurish's tips, your skin will stay healthy all year round.

Why is my skin dry and dehydrated?

To begin with, to understand what your skin needs, it's important to distinguish which pathology it may be suffering from. To do this, we're going to look at the distinction between dry and dehydrated skin.

What is dry skin?

When skin is defined as "dry", it means that it lacks sebum (the oily substance that protects your epidermis and prevents it from drying out). The function of sebum is to protect your epidermis while preventing it from drying out. In other words, when your skin lacks sebum, it doesn't have enough oil to protect itself from bacteria or other external aggressors. This phenomenon can cause discomfort, as well as desquamation (the formation of dead skin cells visible on the skin's surface).

What causes dry skin?

There are many causes of dry skin:

  • Climate: Whether it's winter (wind, freezing temperatures) or summer, with its UV rays, your skin can dry out.
  • Bad eating habits: Nurish founder Isabelle Huot, a doctor of nutrition, won't tell you otherwise! A nutrient-poor, unbalanced diet can affect your skin.
  • Inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.
  • Certain synthetic fabrics such as polyester and nylon can irritate your skin. We advise you to opt for breathable materials wherever possible.

How can you tell if your skin is dry?

There are several factors that can help you understand if you have dry skin:

  • Sensitive, easily irritated skin
  • Reddish or cracked skin
  • Presence of dead skin cells on the skin surface
  • Itchy skin
  • Dull complexion with skin losing its elasticity

    What is dehydrated skin?

Unlike dry skin, which lacks sebum, dehydrated skin suffers from a lack of water. In other words, it has not received sufficient hydration. Contrary to popular belief, all skin types can be subject to dehydration, including oily skin.
What's more, it's important to know that you can have dry, dehydrated skin at the same time. In fact, some of the pathologies associated with these two symptoms are similar, such as discomfort, tightness and flaking.

Why is it possible to have dehydrated skin?

Skin can become dehydrated for a number of reasons, including :

    • Lack of sleep
    • Stress-related problems
    • Lack of daily hydration
    • Exposure to the sun, especially UV rays
    • Pollution
    • Poor lifestyle habits, especially excessive smoking, coffee and alcohol consumption
    • Certain cosmetic products, especially those with an excessively high pH

How can you tell if your skin is dehydrated?

Dehydrated skin can lead to the following pathologies:

    • Problems with acne or blackheads
    • Oily skin in the T-zone
    • More dilated pores
    • Lack of radiance

Our 5 tips for soft, moisturized skin

To solve the problems of dry, dehydrated skin, the Nurish team, specialists in natural cosmetic care, give you all the advice you need to keep or regain soft, moisturized skin all year round.

    1) Drink plenty of water to keep skin hydrated

When it comes to skin problems, the first instinct is often to turn exclusively to cosmetics to solve them. Even though they are extremely useful and an integral part of your skincare routine for soft, moisturized skin, they are not the only ones capable of solving your skin problems.

In fact, as our bodies are mostly made up of water, it's crucial to drink at least 1.5 liters of water a day to maintain healthy skin. This water intake will hydrate your skin by supplying moisture from within. Water has been proven to help maintain skin elasticity and suppleness. So, for soft, hydrated skin, make sure you drink regularly throughout the day.

    2) Maintain a healthy lifestyle

In the same spirit as daily moisturizing, a healthy lifestyle is an important element in keeping skin soft and hydrated all year round. To this end, we recommend a diet rich in omega-3s, which will reinforce your skin's natural barriers. You should also include foods rich in water, vitamins and antioxidants, such as fruit. With this in mind, our founder, nutritionist Isabelle Huot, who places great importance on diet, has chosen to incorporate skin-benefiting fruits such as camerise du Québec, pomegranate and others into Nurish cosmetics.

For a healthy daily diet, don't hesitate to visit the second site of our founder, nutritionist Isabelle Huot. You'll find ready-to-eat dishes and healthy, gourmet snacks, ideal for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

    3) Exfoliate your skin regularly

Exfoliation stimulates blood circulation and eliminates dead cells, particularly in the case of dry or dehydrated skin. A body scrub also encourages skin regeneration, making it softer and silkier.

To do this, in the shower, apply our tangerine-scented body scrub gel, made from 99.7% natural ingredients. This scrub gently eliminates dead skin cells, often present on dry skin, thanks to the non-irritating grape seeds. Apply to wet skin in circular movements, then rinse thoroughly. We recommend you use this scrub about once a week for optimum results.

    4) Moisturize your skin every day

We can't stress this enough: moisturizing your skin should become a reflex in your daily skincare routine. Topical moisturizing is essential for maintaining healthy, radiant skin. Throughout the day, our skin is subjected to multiple aggressions that can dry it out: temperature variations, pollution, hard water from the shower, etc. Proper moisturization strengthens the skin barrier and preserves your complexion's natural radiance, helping you to achieve softer, more radiant skin.

For daily moisturizing, we recommend applying our Silky Mandarin Body Sorbet Milk, made with Aloe Vera gel, Vitamin F and Hyaluronic Acid, ingredients renowned for their moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. This treatment creates a thin, non-greasy protective layer that helps your skin retain the moisture it needs to stay soft and hydrated. For best results, apply this treatment just after exfoliating your epidermis, as it is at this precise moment that your skin is most likely to absorb the products applied.

    5) Choose natural skin care products

It's well known that some skincare products may contain controversial ingredients. In addition to being potentially harmful to health, these ingredients can have negative effects on the skin, even though their primary action is to care for it. To avoid the irritating substances often found in conventional cosmetics, opt for natural moisturizers like those from Nurish. All our products are made with 99% natural ingredients, offering you a natural skincare routine suited to all skin types.

The right products for soft, moisturized skin

As mentioned above, to maintain soft, moisturized skin all year round, good hydration, a healthy lifestyle and good natural cosmetics are the keys to success. That's why Nurish is committed every day to bringing you products that are good for your body and made in Quebec.

Let's start with hydration, caring for your skin from the inside out with our hydrolyzed collagen. Indeed, hydration through collagen supplementation helps to improve skin elasticity and enhance its ability to retain moisture, contributing to a more youthful, radiant appearance of your epidermis.

To care for your body, opt for our Body Scrub Gel with mandarin scent, which removes dead skin cells without aggressing even the most sensitive skin. For soft, moisturized skin every day, complete your routine with our Body Milk, rich in moisturizing ingredients.
